Discussion lists are discussions that take place over e-mail;
you receive all messages from the group as email, and send them to the group
in the same way.
To subscribe to ACW-L (Alliance for Computer and Writing), email them and make the email consist of only: "subscribe ACW-L FirstName
LastName" to be subscribed to the list.
To subscribe to INTCOLED (all teachers using Internet in classroom), email them and make the email
consist of only: "SUB INTCOLED"
To subscribe to NETEACH-L (Internet as an educational tool), email them and make the email consist of only: "subscribe NETEACH-L FirstName
LastName"
These sites are accessable if you have Netscape. To set yourself up, go to the OPTIONS menu in Netscape and select MAIL AND NEWS PREFERENCES. You will be presented with a window which has several tabs at the top; click on the one titled "Server." You will then be presented with a window that has Email preferences at the top and a small News preference box at the bottom. In the News preference box, in the space provided for
"News (NNTP) Server" type in "news.csus.edu" and click on "OK." This will tell Netscape to connect to the CSUS (Sacramento State Univ.) news server. After doing that, just click on onw
of the newsgroup links below:
misc.education.language.english: a newsgroup where we can discuss topics of interest to teachers of English to speakers of other languages.
bit.listserv.tesl-l is also a discussion of TESL/FL. It is a moderated discussion and to participate you must first subscribe to theTESL-L mailing list.
bit.listserv.slart-l is also a discussion of TESL/FL.
comp.edu.languages.natural is devoted to software for assisting language instruction.
alt.education.research is a newsgroup about studying about studying
uk.education.misc is a newsgroup of interest to those involved in education in the United Kingdom.
alt.flame.spelling is the place to criticize other people's spelling.
alt.usage.english is a newsgroup where discussion is about the English language.
alt.usage.english.neologism is described as being for "meaningless words coined by psychotics". Not many sites carry it, and it has had little traffic so far; the people who do post to it are more positive about neologisms than the quoted description would indicate.
misc.education.adult is devoted to adult education issues.
k12.lang.art is for K12 teachers of language arts
k12.chat.teacher is for K12 teachers, in general.
k12.ed.art Arts & crafts curriculum in K-12 education.
k12.ed.business Business education curriculum in grades K-12.
